Here, in the hills around Waldhaff, on occasion, you come across a wooden-beam tower, with certain concrete and I-beam supports, a tower that rises to the tree-tops and has been built with no apparent purpose or end other than to provide a purpose for the other construction-oriented elements of the strange and sprawling complex to be found elsewhere in the woods of Waldhaff, for instance, the fenced-off compound where wooden and metal pallets are stacked or another such compound where I-beams and wooden beams are kept, some of them kept in a large tin shed to the area’s rear. And so you come back to the tower before you, a monument to the absurd.
