Where might we find the sensitive man, capturing sensations so subtle as to be unfelt by others and then capable of projecting these same feelings onto unfeeling others as their own. In vain would we seek him in literature, for he is already to be found in this world, either sensing or inventing intentions which were perhaps never there, in the mere flick of a card, the rise and fall of an Adam’s apple or the furtive glance towards a clock.
