On the downward path, my eyes fell upon the trees gathered before me, their bare branches overlapping in such a way as to lead the eye ever onward. In this thicket, I thought to have happened upon fractals, the natural fractals of a thicket: the forebranch splitting into three, the left going under, the middle going on, the right going over; the left splitting into three, the left left going under, the left middle going on, the left right going over; the other limbs continuing in such fashion; the branches of the trees behind branching in like manner. In the fractal thicket, my eyes met with branch, no air between them, and I truly could not see the forest for the trees.
