?:?? am: In a house not unlike the grandparents’, interrogating strangers as to their passage through the American West and their tales of a city, quite prosperous at the turn of the century though for a reason not made clear, on a rocky ridge, retail at the base and residences on the heights, with cut-stone mansions and Neoclassical rotunda sprouting from the upper, an immense concentration of wealth wholly unlike the reality of that time and place.
7:53 am: It did not prove difficult to trace the dream’s formation to the stimuli afforded by a trip through Germany’s Hunsruck and Black Forest where I had found towns strung between the hills and bold architecture mounting their slopes. Imagination and dream-logic had again done their work of filtering and recombination on environmental stimuli.
